The act of saving or protecting one from harm, risk, destruction, etc. is defined as salvation. For Christians this act means redemption or deliverance from the power and penalty of sin. Sin is man’s separation from God due to our transgressions against his will.
If you want a restored relationship with God (i.e., get saved), to be assured of your salvation or to help others understand what it means to be saved , the following Bible verses should be helpful to you.
Romans 3:23 says, “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God”
This verse makes it clear that we all are guilty of sin and thereby condemned for it. Another way of saying it is that we all have “missed the mark”.
Romans 5:12 says, “Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned”
The one man referenced in this verse is Adam, the man God created in the beginning. When Adam transgressed (sinned) against the will of God, sin entered into the world, making all men guilty of what Adam had done. As a result, death (the spiritual separation from God) came upon all mankind.
Romans 10:9-10 says, “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”
As the verse indicates, it’s not complicated to be saved if you believe and confess it with your mouth.
Ephesians 2:8-9 says, “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and not of yourselves; it is a gift of God: Not of works lest any man should boast.”
God’s grace and his love is what saves you by receiving the gift of his son Jesus Christ. You can’t work your way into heaven. Don’t be fooled into thinking your good works are enough to get you there.
John 1:12 says, “But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name”
John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
This verse assures us of eternal life through God’s grace and mercy for those of us who believe Jesus Christ died for us and that have asked him to forgive us of our sins.
After accepting Jesus Christ as Lord, it’s important to establish a relationship with him. Read your Bible, develop a habit of prayer (talking to God) and attend a bible believing church where you can learn about living a Godly life. Read Ephesians 2:2-5, Ephesians 5:8 and John 13:34-35.
